Meet the MECO Team

Our strength is our workforce of qualified tradesmen, with the support of an experienced project management team. Over the years we have enjoyed a high retention of staff, as we maintain an open-door policy and an environment which encourages employees to show innovation and reach for their potential.Our staff numbers vary from around 50 to 100 - depending on what projects we are catering for.

At Meco there’s no demarcation between trades, as all staff collaborate to get the job done.

All members of our management team have served hands-on trades’ time, giving them an intricate understanding of the engineering business.

If you contact Meco you will more than likely be greeted by our receptionist Belinda. She will then direct you to the relevant team member for further assistance. Other responsibilities include administering the Quality Management System, ACE payroll, KiwiSaver and employee records, as well as company documents and archives plus promotion through advertising and marketing.

Robert has been with us since 1987. Co-ordinating Meco’s supervisors, Robert oversees all the work that comes through the company. He is the first port-of-call for customer needs, referring on to the appropriate supervisors or contracts and estimating team. A fitter and turner by trade, his more than 43 years experience as an engineer include 26 years in engineering management.

Geoff Hale joined Meco Engineering in 2012 as part of the team as an Estimator/Project Engineer, having been out of the industry for a short period of time.  Geoff’s experience as an engineer extends into design, procurement, project management, hazop analysis, construction supervision and commissioning of machinery and piping.  Geoffs vast professional experience sets him well for working in our team and with our customers.

Mechanical Engineer, graduated from Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines in 1982

Moved to New Zealand in 2012 after working extensively for 15 years in Singapore in the fields of building construction mechanical services including design and feasibility studies, maritime vessels and industrial facilities construction with specific roles in regulatory and legislative compliance inspection and testing.

For the last 3 years, has taken up the role as an Estimator exercising full bid process roles for a mechanical engineering company providing light and heavy fabrication worksserving high end solutions to wide range of clients in industrial and petrochemical sectors with high emphasis on work safety and quality of service. Job responsibilities includesprocurement, sub contract management, cost control, variation assessments, workshop and site work coordination and project management.

Sam has had ten years experience in the heavy fabrication industry, particularly in structural fabrication and site erection. He enjoys and looks forward to the daily challenges that project work brings.

Sam has a strong emphasis on Health and Safety, both with on-site work and workshop fabrication.

Meeting deadlines and budgets for the client are important to Sam in his daily activities.

Chris Read is one of our Structural Foreman. He has a wealth of engineering experience with over 28 years in the trade, both on the tools and in leadership roles.

Chris served his time as a fitter/welder A. Chris brings to our diverse heavy fabrication team top class leadership qualities. Chris has a strong emphasis on Health and Safety.

Chris brings a can-do attitude and will lead from the front to ensure quality and deadlines are met.

Carlo runs and administers our light fabrication/nonferrous/stainless steel division.

Being trade qualified in Nelson and over the following 15 years developing his skills to a well respected standard in the trade.

Carlo joined Meco Engineering since 2012 as the family moved north following the Christchurch Earthquake.

Carlo and the team are specialists in light and heavy Stainless Steel/ Aluminium fabrication and have acknowledgements of many high quality projects throughout the country.

Awad Ram, our Mechanical Service Engineer, graduated from Fiji's Institute of Technology School of Mechanical Engineering, in 1990.

For the next fifteen years, Awad worked extensively in Fiji in the field of manufacturing and plant maintenance. Most of this work required complying to the ISO9002 standard.

After moving to New Zealand in 2008 to take up a position with Meco Engineering, Awad has continued using his experience in mechanical breakdowns, new installations, servicing machinery and in project work, as the Mechanical Service Engineer.

Darren has worked in the heavy fabrication department at Meco since 2001. He has a wide range of knowledge and experience in this field as well as in pool fencing, security fencing and security gates.

For the last five years, Darren has taken on the role of Service Engineer which includes domestic, commercial and industrial roller door servicing, installation and repairs and also security grilles and sliding doors.

Darren takes pride in his work and strives for customer satisfaction.

Simon holds the position of Foreman at Meco Engineering. He served his time as a sheetmetal fabricator/welder before progressing to heavy fabrication during his time working in international construction.

Simon brings with him over 17 years of expertise in fabrication and welding. He has a vast knowledge and experience in a wide range of engineering practices gained through his years spent in project management.

Simon takes pride in producing quality industry and contemporary fabrication projects to a high standard.

A fitter and turner by trade, Ian has a business diploma and more than 50 years of hands-on engineering industry experience.
